HowTo make sure Windows 2008 Domain Controller is acting as NTP Server

0

Problem: You configured Windows 2008 as an NTP Server (e.g. during an domain controller promotion), but the server isn´t acting as an NTP Server and no NTP settings could be fetched from this server. You tried some tools to check the NTP Server (e.g. NTP Server Checker from Galleon) but didn´t got back any response from the server.

Solution: In at least one szenario where we saw this issue, a registry value was wrong. So please check if the following value is correctly set, if not change it and reboot the server or restart the “Windows Time” (w32time) service.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpServer]"
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
