Windows 10 Driver for HP EliteBook 850 G5 Notebook

If you wish to install Windows 10 64bit on a HP EliteBook 850 G5 Notebook-PC you need the following drivers:

Warnung: Some of the drivers below aren´t officially tested by HP with the 850 G5, so the best would be to stick to the official HP drivers listed on the HP Website. However they work on my device without issues. Check also the official HP Bulletins and Notices from time to time!

Upgrades:

HD:

The device can be upgraded with one HD connected to the M.2 interface (and looks like if it supports SATA-3-SSD and/or NVMe-PCIe-SSD; the NVMe should have a better speed). There is no space for a 2nd M.2 card or even an 2.5 zoll drive. Based on the Maintenance and Service Guide the following Solid-state drive (SSD) would work (only HDs bigger then 512 GB are listed here):

  • 1 TB, PCIe, Gen3×4, NVMe TLC (L17246-001)
  • 512 GB, PCIe, Gen3×4, Self-encrypting drive (SED), Opal 2 TLC (L17250-001)
  • 512 GB, SATA-3, FIPS-140–2 TLC (L17249-001)
  • Samsung SSD 970 Pro M.2 1TB

The following drives are known to be working as well:

  • Crucial MX500 CT1000MX500SSD4 1TB (3D NAND, SATA, M.2 Type 2280SS, internal SSD)
  • Crucial P1 CT1000P1SSD8 1TB internal SSD (3D NAND, NVMe, PCIe, M.2)

RAM:

The device has two RAM slots (for DDR4-2400 SDRAM with dual channel support) and supports up to 32 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:

32768 MB = 32GB (16384 MB×2)
24576 MB = 24 GB (16384 MB×1 + 8192 MB×1)
20480 MB = 20 GB (16384 MB×1 + 4096 MB×1)
16384 MB = 16 GB (16384 MB×1 or 8192 MB×2)
12288 MB = 12 GB (8192 MB×1 + 4096 MB×1)
8192 MB = 8 GB (8192 MB×1 or 4096 MB×2)
4096 MB = 4 GB (4096 MB×1)

The following modules are known to be working:

  • Kingston ValueRAM 16GB DDR4 Modul SO-DIMM 2400 C17

Note: Due to the dual channel support you should use two identically RAM modules for the best performance.

CPU:

The HP EliteBook 850 G5 has a build in CPU (soldered on the main board) so you couldn´t replace it, without replacing the whole main board. During initial order you could choose between:

  • 8th Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i7 processor (i7-8650U) [4 Cores / 8 Threads @ 1.90 GHz]
  • 8th Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i7 processor (i7-8550U) [4 Cores / 8 Threads @ 1.80 GHz]
  • 8th Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5 processor (i5-8350U) [4 Cores / 8 Threads @ 1.70 GHz]
  • 8th Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5 processor (i5-8250U) [4 Cores / 8 Threads @ 1.60 GHz]
  • 7th Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5 processor (i5-7300U) [2 Cores / 8 Threads @ 2.60 GHz]
  • 7th Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5 processor (i5-7200U) [2 Cores / 8 Threads @ 2.50 GHz]

GPU/Graphic Card:

The device comes with an integrated “Intel UHD Graphics 620” option which is part from the CPU chip, so you couldn´t change it. During initial order it was possible to get an discrete/external “AMD Radeon RX 540” option with 2 GB GDDR5 dedicated. However the GPU is part from the main board and soldered beside the CPU, so couldn´t replace/install it, without replacing the whole main board.

Note:
