Bluetooth (Intel Wireless 7260 Family)
Note: Can be fully disabled in the bios!
The device can hold up to two storage drives. One must be connected to the M.2 interface (only one SATA-2-SSD is supported here and no NVMe-SSD!) while the other one can be an 2.5 SATA-2-SSD or SATA-2-HDD. As SATA-3 is downgrade compatible with SATA-2, you can also use SATA-3 devices (but only with the speed from SATA-2). Known devices are:
- SanDisk X210 SSD 512GB, 2,5 inch, SATA III, MLC (SD6SB2M-512G-100X210)
- Transcend MTS400 SSD 256GB, M.2, SATA III, MLC (TS256GMTS400)
If your devices comes with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260NB you do not have the option to use Bluetooth as the card do not offer that. Therefore the function to enable or disable Bluetooth is not present in the bios. To get a build in Bluetooth function, you need to replace the WLAN card as explained below. The Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 offer Bluetooth 4.0.
The latest WLAN standard which is offically supported by HP with the Elitebook 850 G1 is AC (from 2014). To use it you require a Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0 WLAN module. It should have the entry SPS: 710661-001 printed on the sticker! The HP Elitebook 850 G1 comes with 2x2 antennas and used the Half mini wifi card (HMC; Intel identifies with HMW in the model name) type slot (a M.2 would not work as the antennas aren´t in the near from the M.2 slot). Keep noted that the 7260 do not support WPA3.
As Intel no longer manufacture wireless adapters in HMC form factor (as written here). So there will be no better card as the form factor available for new Intel Wireless Adapters like the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 or Intel Wireless-AC 9560 or Intel Wireless-AC 9260 Module is M.2, formerly known as the Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF; which Intel identifies with NGW in the model name). M.2 dimensions may vary, for instance, M.2 2230, M.2 1216, etc.). Additional HMC adapters use Ipex/U.fl antennas, while M.2 wireless adapters generally use Ipex/Mhf4 antennas.
DDR3L SDRAM (1600 MHz)
Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory
4 GB and 8 GB SODIMMs
Maximum Upgradeable to 16384 MB with optional 8192 MB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2
The HP EliteBook 850 G1 supports UEFI. To change from the Bios (Legacy) to UEFI perform the following steps:
1.) Change your Windows 10 OS as explained here
2.) At the HP startup screen, hit "ESC" for the "Startup Menu", "F10" for "BIOS Setup"
3.) in "System Configuration" tab, "Boot Options", change "Boot Mode" from "Legacy" to "UEFI Hybrid (With CSM)" for Windows 7 64 bit or even better to "Native UEFI (without CSM)" which is used for Windows 8 64 bit and higher.
The HP EliteBook 850 G1 has a build in CPU (soldered on the main board) and you couldn´t replace that without replacing the whole main board. The highest CPU the model supports is the the i7-4600U (which has 2 cores and 4 threads with 2,10 Ghz).
It you have something to update to the list, feel free to leave a comment, so we can collect all the info`s.
