Abstract: A Skype for Business (=SfB) Windows client shows a black screen during screen sharing or crash during a screen sharing.

If a SfB user share his screen it shows a black screen (sometimes the remote side can see the mouse moving) or sometimes the SfB client crash after some minutes the SfB user shared his screen. Microsoft provided an hotfix for the issue which is mentioned here. However it looks like for many users the hotfix isn´t solving the issue.

A possible workaround is to upgrade SfB to the version 16.0.6741.2025 (make also sure you are using the latest driver). However this didn´t solve the issue for every user yet. So the current workaround for that issue is

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync]
"EnableP2PScreenSharingOverVideo"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync]
"EnableP2PScreenSharingOverVideo"=dword:00000000

Depending if the 32bit or 64bit SfB client is used. This disable Video Based Screen Sharing (VBSS) and then re-enable Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)-based screen sharing.

Note:

If the issue happen during a conference, then try the following key as an workaround:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync]
"EnableConferenceScreenSharingOverVideo"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync]
"EnableConferenceScreenSharingOverVideo"=dword:00000000
